What do we understand by giving and not expecting in return?
Somewhere in the bible, it was said not to expect what was given or loaned returned. In fact, give him doubly more.
How does a Christian interpret this?
That Jesus told you to love your neighbour as yourself, that you should forgive him and love him, and that since Jesus himself suffered more than you, forgive that man in the Name of Jesus out of christ's love and compassion for you. And give him doubly more.
How does a Swami interpret this?
Why do you give and expect something in return? A man sends a christmas gift to his friend, and this very friend whom he considers close, did not bother to show his appreciation at all. There was no thank you note, nothing whatsoever. The man is disappointed and angry at such impolite behaviour.
When we expect the fruits of an action, we dig out a new hole in our heart for ourselves which was not present initially, waiting for it to be filled by what we expect. It is best not to create such an action in the first place then! The one who suffers is the one who expects the fruits of action. Give, and don't expect in return.
Which way is better?
