It doesnt matter what you believe
as long as you hold a belief that aids you.
for we know that all work and all dreams are futile in a world where we have to pass on, yet we pursue them and believe in their permanance.
And the programmer who owns the 1s and 0s would not leave alone the tools he have without constructing something solely for the purpose or some other purpose which he believes it worthwhile, so should you hold your own belief in life that makes the most sense to you, because ultimately, our non-existance is not a reason to be disillusioned, but to be accepted and be joyful about.

The Buddha says that there is no self. The assertion of Self or No Self does not lead to nirvana. It is the realisation of non-self without assertion that leads to it.

Christ told us to die to ourselves. It seems like this self that we claim dearly should either be denied or buried.
